Course Reserves for Students
Faculty may assign readings that are only available in the Libraries or electronically through Moodle. These are generally referred to as "reserve readings" or "being on reserve.". The Colgate University Libraries’ Reserve services are available at both Case-Geyer Library and Cooley Science Library. These services are heavily used by students needing access to both required and recommended readings.
Books, films, printed articles, sound recordings, and other physical materials placed on reserve can be discovered using the Course Reserves section of the Library's online catalog. They are organized by either course name/number or by the faculty member's name. These materials are stored at either the Case-Geyer Library or Cooley Science Library Borrowing Services Desk. Students must provide the call number when requesting these items. The call number can be found in the library catalog record.
These materials have limited loan periods to make them available to all the students in the class. Fines are higher for reserve materials than normal circulating books so it is important to return materials when they are due.
Electronic reserves, including scanned articles, book chapters, or links to outside content, can be located in Moodle. A student must be registered in the course to access its Moodle contents.
