Finding Joe / Pat and Pat Inc., present ; written and directed by Patrick Takaya Solomon ; produced by Patricia Frazier ; consulting producer, Kate Churchill.
[United States] : Pat and Pat ; Hillsboro, OR : [Distributed by] Beyond Words Publishing, 2011.
"In the early 20th century, while studying world mythology, Joseph Campbell discovered a pattern hidden in every story ever told and he called it 'the hero's journey.' Finding Joe explores how the hero's journey is relevant and essential in today's world. It provides a narrative for how to live a fully realized life, or as Campbell would simply state, 'follow your bliss.' The film takes us on an inspirational quest of self-discovery. As you slay dragons and uncover treasures, you just may find that the holy grail you seek is closer than you think."--Container

Living history : experiencing great events of the ancient and medieval worlds / Robert Garland.
Chantilly, Va. : Teaching Company, [2015].
"More than covering great events that change the contours of history, Professor Garland takes you into the scene and allows you to hear what he terms the "heartbeat of history." Rather than merely reviewing the facts of events such as the Battle of Marathon, the arrest and trial of Jesus, and the coronation of Charlemagne, you'll engage with a variety of first-hand accounts and authentic primary and secondary sources to experience what it was like to live these events as they occurred. From reports by historians such as Herodotus and Livy to official scrolls and administrative records, these eyewitness sources and ancient documents take you back in time through the eyes of people who were there."--provided from distributor's website

New York : Cinema Guild, 2006.
"In this documentary, we follow environmental activist and nuclear physicist Vandana Shiva for a period of two years, a whirlwind tour from her organic farm at the foot of the Himalayas to the summit of the World Trade Organization in Mexico to a protest outside the European Patents Office in Munich. Here, in these institutions of power, Shiva does battle with the proponents of globalization, multi-national corporations like Monsanto, an American bio-tech company manufacturing genetically modified foods (whom Shiva holds responsible for a rash of farmers' suicides) and Coca-Cola, accused of depleting and contaminating groundwater in India ... Bullshit elucidates some of the most pressing social and technological questions of the 21st century--can genetically modified foods alleviate world hunger? is it legal for corporations to patent natural crops? can indigenous knowledge inform modern genetic engineering?--as it takes you to the frontlines of the war over globalization"-- Container

Starting on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, as the community grapples with the death of Michael Brown, Do not resist -- the directorial debut of Detropia cinematographer Craig Atkinson -- offers a stunning look at the current state of policing in America and a glimpse into the future. The Tribeca Film Festival winner for Best Documentary puts viewers in the center of the action -- from a ride-along with a South Carolina SWAT team and inside a police training seminar that teaches the importance of "righteous violence" to the floor of a congressional hearing on the proliferation of military equipment in small-town police departments -- before exploring where controversial new technologies, including predictive policing algorithms, could lead the field next."--From film website

"In August 2014, the video execution of American conflict journalist James Foley by the militant group ISIS challenged the world to deal with a new face of terror. But 40-year-old Foley was more than just the victim of this brutal killing. Seen through the lens of filmmaker Brian Oakes, Foley's childhood friend, JIM: The James Foley Story takes viewers from small-town New England to the adrenaline-fueled front lines of Libya and Syria, where Foley pushed the limits of danger to report on the plight of civilians impacted by war. The film culminates in Foley's 2012 capture by ISIS and the confusion and emotional upheaval that followed, ending in his tragic death nearly two years later. Foley's family, friends and colleagues help tell Jim's story, while his fellow hostages reveal the details of captivity with chilling immediacy. Gut- wrenching and powerful, with unparalleled access, Jim: The James Foley Story is a harrowing chronicle of bravery, compassion and pain at the dawn of America's war with ISIS."--Container

"At three years old, a chatty, energetic little boy named Owen Suskind suddenly stopped speaking and disappeared into autism. Almost four years passed and the only thing that seemed to engage Owen were Disney films. Then one day his father donned one of his son's puppets--Iago, the wisecracking parrot from Aladdin--and asked 'What's it like to be you?' Suddenly, Owen responded to his father using dialogue from the movie ... Life, Animated tells the remarkable story of how Owen found a pathway to language and a framework for making sense of the world through Disney animated films. By evocatively interweaving classic Disney sequences with vrit scene's from Owen's life, the film explores how identification and empathy with characters like Simba, Jafar and Ariel create a context for him to understand his feelings and interpret reality" --Container

Examines America's consumption of technology and the global problem of e- waste. The documentary traces the life cycle of computers from creation to disposal, and uncovers how these products are disposed of and where exactly they wind up. The United States, for example, is the only industrialized country that does not prohibit the export of its e-waste. So while seventy percent of America's e-waste is buried in toxic landfills, the rest is sent to developing countries. Terra Blight brings us to one such landfill in Ghana, where young boys scavenge through mountains of broken computers, keyboards and laptops searching for copper and other metals. The documentary also shows us a possible solution to the problem, taking us inside a new high-tech facility in the United States where e-waste is efficiently recycled
